How we are enhancing our members’ welfare

SPF CARE

Contribution to PCWF

Each year, POLWEL contributes more than 20% of our total net surplus towards the Police Central Welfare Fund (PCWF) to advance the welfare of our members through various benefits and services. Some of these initiatives include newborn gifts, wedding gifts, bereavement grants, study awards, insurance incentives, and complimentary tickets to recreational activities.

Welfare Sponsorships

POLWEL sponsors a diverse range of lucky draw prizes, including electronic gadgets and appliances, for over 40 SPF units and Home Team Departments to enhance their internal staff welfare events such as Dinner & Dance and Family Day.

POLWEL offers members loan services which are tailored to align with their life milestones and support their aspirations with accessible financial assistance. Members can also boost their savings through placing fixed deposits with POLWEL that provide them with attractive interest rates.

How we are supporting our members’ career transition journey

POLWEL works closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), SPF and other Home Team Departments to offer timely and effective career transition support to members approaching retirement. Through a comprehensive 5-year career transition roadmap, we provide career coaching and advisory services, and offer employment opportunities to ensure a smooth transition for transitioning officers. Even after their retirement, POLWEL continues to extend job-matching support for these officers.

Home Team Career Summit 2023

POLWEL actively participates in events and activities to engage with the retiring SPF and Home Team officers by offering insights into post-retirement opportunities and the support schemes available to assist them in their second career transition.

Additional programmes such as skills certification training courses, workplace attachment programmes, and job-matching services are offered to support retiring officers from the SPF and Home Team.

Presently, more than 60% of POLWEL’s total strength is made up of retired SPF and Home Team officers covering various job functions (such as enforcement support, investigation, prosecution, assessment and audit, specialised training, etc), tapping on their specialist skills and wealth of experience.

How we are achieving sustainable operations

POLWEL Retail Shopping Bag

Green Sourcing and Production Practices

POLWEL utilises eco-friendly shopping paper bags and corrugated carton packaging boxes which are made from recycled and biodegradable materials, promoting the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, and recycle across our retail operations to encourage sustainable consumption.

Energy Efficiency Initiatives

POLWEL has implemented energy-saving initiatives across all our offices to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. These efforts include upgrading to energy-efficient LED lighting and appliances as well as encouraging employees to conserve energy when the lights and equipment are not in use.

Waste Reduction

POLWEL has put in place waste reduction and recycling practices, such as recycling programmes for paper, plastic and electronic waste, as well as cutting down on single-use plastics at our events. In 2023, we achieved about 24% reduction in paper usage compared to the previous year, primarily from our ongoing digitalisation efforts.

These donations served to provide more than 4,000 meals to those in need. POLWEL also procured handmade cookies from Yellow Ribbon Bakery to be distributed as door gifts for POLWEL Annual Appreciation Dinner 2024, with the aim of supporting the noble cause of offering inmates the chance to develop new skills.
