POLWEL’s Financial Services Division plays a vital role in supporting members when they need it most. Leading the team with heart and purpose is Phebe Kwek, known for her dedication and belief that no challenge is too great when it comes to helping others.

Meet Phebe Kwek, the Manager of POLWEL’s Financial Services Division (FSD)! Now in her seventh year with POLWEL, she has witnessed firsthand stories that will touch your heart, from members celebrating a new bundle of joy to families navigating unexpected crises. We sat down with her to learn what drives her and how her team continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of members.
Phebe identifies solutions that best support members’ financial goals.
How does POLWEL’s financial services help its members?
We offer a range of member-centric financial solutions, including loans and fixed deposits. With flexible repayment plans and competitive interest rates, our goal is to provide members with financial peace of mind and a helping hand at every stage of life, from home renovations or marriage plans to helping them grow their savings safely.
We also regularly review our interest rates and loan requirements to stay competitive and relevant to their needs.
Phebe and her team engage with members through regular sharing sessions, listening to their concerns and needs.
What inspired the introduction of new loans like the Eco-Reno Loan and Emergency Loan?
A person’s financial situations can change unexpectedly. We have seen emergencies, such as the sudden loss of employment of a member’s next-of-kin, resulting in a drop in household income and placing financial strain on the family – situations that can cause real stress. The Emergency Loan was introduced to provide quick financial relief to tide over a difficult period.
With our #POLWELCares approach driving POLWEL’s ESG efforts, we launched the Eco-Reno Loan at a lower interest rate than our standard Renovation Loan to encourage members to choose energy-efficient installations and eco-friendly materials when renovating their homes.
“It’s a small but meaningful step toward sustainability, and making green choices more affordable for our members,” she adds.

Has there been a moment you felt proud knowing the Financial Services Division had made a meaningful impact on a member’s life?
Yes, most definitely. I vividly remember a member who had taken a loan from POLWEL but was later involved in a serious accident that left him in a catatonic state. As the family’s sole breadwinner, it was a devastating situation. We made special arrangements to help ease their financial burden.
There was another memorable case involving a member whose premature baby required intensive medical care. The medical bills were significant and the family was struggling. Our team stepped in to provide support during this challenging time.
“It’s moments like these that remind me why we do what we do.”
A look back at Phebe’s 7-year journey with POLWEL.
What has kept you motivated to persevere?
I have always been interested in the finance industry, having studied banking and finance, but what truly motivates me is knowing that my work can make a real difference in someone’s life. As a strong believer in continuous learning, completing my master’s degree recently has helped me make more informed decisions and guide my team with greater context and clarity.
“I was drawn to join POLWEL because of its purpose-driven mission to serve and support members’ well-being.” she said proudly.
Finally, if you could give one piece of financial advice to members, what would it be?
Plan for the unexpected. Financial stability is not only about saving money but also being prepared for life’s uncertainties. Whether it means setting aside funds for emergencies or accumulating your savings, the key is to plan early, stay consistent and expect the unexpected!
